Egyptian Death Masks

14th Oct 2020

We have had great fun over the last few weeks creating our Egyptian mummy masks.

Before we started our masks we learnt all about Ancient Egyptian mummies and how the Egyptians believed the mask placed over the sarcophagus had to look like the person inside so that the soul would find its way back to the correct body in the afterlife.

Then we looked at the most famous death mask of all- King Tutankhamen's! We couldn't believe how well preserved it is even after all these years.

After all that learning we got stuck into creating our masks. First we used paper mache, then we painted our masks gold, before outlining the eyes using black marker. Some children also chose to add stripes to theirs (just like King Tutankhamen's).

I wonder can you guess who is behind each mask?
