Over the past 2 weeks we have been learning all about how and why the Ancient Egyptians mummified people. Today we recreated the mummification process using a tomato! To achieve this we did the following:
1) Cleaned the tomato (inside and out)
2) Scooped out the seeds
3) Weighed the tomato
4) Filled the tomato with a mixture of salt and baking powder.
We then put our tomatoes in cups and now we are going to leave them for 5 days. We also have a 'control' tomato which we didn't fill with salt/baking powder. After the 5 days are over we are going to compare the control tomato with our mummified tomatoes. We are also going to reweigh the tomatoes to see if they have got heavier or lighter.
We can't wait to see what happens!
