Maths Week

8th Mar 2019

This week in school we celebrated Maths Week. Here is a brief outline of what we did to celebrate;

Monday- Each class was split into small groups and given a fun mathematical statement to investigate through-out the week. For example; 'The person in your class with the longest finger also has the longest toe', 'The school has more doors than windows' or '200 bags of peas would be enough to fill the floor of your classroom'.

Tuesday- Outdoor maths trail. Each class participated in their own trail in the school grounds.

Wednesday- The whole school was split into 3 teams. Each team rotated around each of the classrooms. Each of the classrooms had a different activity. Classroom 1- STEM challenge (building a structure out of marshmallows and spaghetti), Classroom 2- Maths through art, Classroom 3- Maths through ICT.

Thursday- Investigate their maths statement (from Monday). Prepare their presentations for Friday.

Friday- The whole school gathered together and each group shared their mathematical statement and explained how they worked it out and what their final answer was. The children were able to use PowerPoint, Book Creator, written work or pictures to help them explain how they carried out their investigation.

We had a very busy week and can't wait to celebrate Maths week again next year!
