Egyptian Cartouches

27th Nov 2020

In class we have been learning about how the ancient Egyptians made cartouches. These were made from wood and they carved their names/messages on these before putting them into the coffin with the mummified bodies. They wrote their names on them so that the soul would be able to find it's way back to the correct body in the after-life.

In class, we made our own using clay that we baked in the oven. We used hieroglyphic stampers to write our names and then we painted them gold. Great work everyone on our final Egyptian art project!
